Here at Buckeye Superstore in Shelby, OH, we love February because that’s when the 2017 Chicago Auto Show is held. And that means this is the month for news of the latest and greatest models and innovations from our favorite automakers. FCA US LLC was so excited about the upcoming 2018 Dodge Durango SRT that they shared news and details about the upcoming SUV ahead of the show. The 2017 Dodge Durango (pictured above) has been a popular car here on our lot near Ashland, OH since it first hit the streets, and we can’t wait to see what FCA US LLC has up their sleeves for this next model.
The 2018 Dodge Durango is all about performance. Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Cars Brands, Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT – FCA North America, had this to say about what drivers can expect: “The new 2018 Dodge Durango SRT is America’s fastest, most powerful and most capable three-row SUV. This is what you get, when you take everything great about the Durango and combine it with the performance of the [Dodge] Charger SRT: a 12-second quarter mile, toy-hauling, three-row muscle car.”
The 392-cubic-inch HEMI® V-8 engine under the hood of the upcoming Dodge Durango SRT pumps out 475 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 470 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,300 rpm. To keep the powertrain running cool and efficient while drivers put the SUV through its paces, a new cold-air duct has been added to deliver cooler outside air into the engine. And don’t worry about pushing things too far: every Dodge SRT vehicle is validated through grueling 24-hour track durability testing. Whatever you plan to throw at the 2018 Dodge Durango SRT, Dodge car engineers have already thrown it—and then some.

2017 has barely begun, but Four Wheeler magazine has already declared a winner. The publication, a popular read for off-road enthusiasts, has crowned the 2017 Jeep® Grand Cherokee Trailhawk® “Off-Road SUV of the Year.”
Editor Ken Brubaker had plenty to say about the rough-and-tumble Jeep SUV: “The addition of the Trailhawk to the [Jeep] Grand Cherokee model lineup is yet another example of Jeep’s commitment to producing vehicles that are just as nimble and capable in the dirt as they are on the paved road.”
So how did Four Wheeler arrive at their decision? Over a week-long period, judges subjected this year’s crop of SUVs to a grueling 1,000-mile test that saw them tackle pavement, gravel, dirt, sand, rocks, mud, snow, and elevations ranging from sea level up to more than 9,000 feet. On the off-road sections of the test, the SUVs were graded on visibility from the driver seat, four-wheel-drive system selection and performance, tire performance and durability, engine power and cooling, transmission function and cooling, suspension tuning, and performance and traction control system function. The judges also paid attention to handling, ride quality, interior comfort, and steering feel. And of course, they evaluated things that weigh heavily on the minds of drivers everywhere: price, fuel efficiency, and size.
That’s a wide array of characteristics to evaluate, and coming out of the other side of Four Wheeler’s test in good standing meant checking an awful lot of boxes. Still, we’re not surprised that the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk was the SUV to emerge victorious. It represents the very best of what the Jeep brand has to offer.
